Dave Edwards: Sad to see Elliott Bennett go - and Charlie Caton could be real loss to Shrewsbury

It is hard to disagree with the vast majority of Shrewsbury’s retained and released list.

It was disappointing – if understandable – to see Elliott Bennett leave Shrewsbury Town, but big things are still expected of young striker Charlie Caton

I think the fans and the senior players will be disappointed to see Elliott Bennett leave the club – but with budget concerns it might be understandable – he has been amazing since he came in.

Rekeil Pyke had a massive resurgence in the last 18 months, but it might be a good thing for him to move on and take the next step. Last season will have done him the world of good in terms of options going forward. I am disappointed to see those boys go, but I think you can understand it from the club’s perspective.

The one that really stands out though, for me, from the boys who have been let go, is Charlie Caton.

He is someone that I played with as he was coming through the system, and I know how much ability he has and I feel like he has not had much of a chance. I know I do not see what he is like in training, but I hear good stuff from the lads I speak to at the football club, and they say really positive things about him.

He is one that I feel could have been offered another contract to see how he gets on in pre-season because I think he has got the potential to be a really good Football League player.
