Dave Edwards: Shrewsbury appointments filling me with quiet confidence
After a summer where for so long not a lot was happening, I think it has been a terrific couple of weeks for Shrewsbury Town.
Matt Taylor might seem something of a surprise choice as head coach but it was the kind of appointment I was anticipating, someone who has experience of working with young players and will operate within the club’s new structure.
In terms of what they were looking for, he really fits the bill. It’s a good job for him and though he has a bit to prove, it’s also a fantastic opportunity.
His only previous experience in senior management was at Walsall and things did not go to plan. But then it has not gone to plan there for a number of managers in recent years.
You’ve had good quality managers, the likes of Michael Flynn for example, who have not been able to make it work. So that does not worry me too much where Taylor is concerned.
