Dave Edwards: Sad to see Leahy go - but I can’t wait to see new Shrewsbury team

So much has happened in the last week at Shrewsbury Town it is hard to keep track of.

Luke Leahy has departed Salop for Wycombe Wanderers (AMA)

It is a massive shame to see Luke Leahy move on because of the impact he has had over the last few years.

He has been a terrific signing for Shrewsbury and he has delivered on the pitch while becoming a leader in the dressing room and club captain.

I think everyone will be disappointed to see him go and the fans will be sad as they really took to Leahy with his attitude on the pitch and his ability as well.

Ultimately, he is 30 and he has to look after himself and his family, money has come in from Wycombe and it is something Shrews will not be able to match.

You can’t blame him for wanting to move on, what is most important for Shrews now is that they got a good deal out of it after bringing Leahy in on a free. He played a lot of football for the club and did really well and they have got a fee at the end of it, I think it has worked out well all around.

He has his move and Town have now got some cash to reinvest – I wish him all the best apart from when he plays against Shrews next year.
