Dave Edwards: Early points on the board was key for Shrewsbury
There was a definite sense of optimism around Shrewsbury Town when they kicked off the new season and after two wins from the first three matches, it is still there.
I always felt Town had a reasonably fair run of fixtures to start the campaign and was hoping they would pick up points because it takes away a bit of pressure and gives Matt Taylor, still relatively new to the role of head coach, more freedom in terms of developing how he wants the team to play.
Winning the opening two home matches helps massively in that regard. Although we would all have liked for them to have made it a perfect three from three in the league, I’m not sure it was the worst thing for Taylor to see how his team reacted to a disappointing performance in defeat at Stevenage last weekend.
He’ll be pleased at how they dusted themselves down and put in a really solid display to beat Burton on Tuesday night. I have no doubt before a ball was kicked the head coach would have taken six points from the first three matches.
