Shrewsbury boss Matt Taylor: Hard to sign midfielder on free transfer during the season
Matt Taylor believes it is hard to sign a midfielder on a free transfer during the season unless the player is ‘something special’.
Shrews dipped into the free-agent market last weekend to secure the signature of Aaron Pierre – who has played for the club 99 times before.
He comes in to offer defensive reinforcements after Morgan Feeney pulled his hamstring in the 1-0 win against Northampton Town.
With Carl Winchester operating at wing-back, and the injuries to Ryan Finnigan, Jordan Shipley and Elliot Thrope, Shrews have been stretched to the limit in the centre of the park.
And Taylor said that midfield is a difficult position to go into the free transfer market for once the season has begun.
