Shrewsbury putting in the hard yards to solve goal issues

Shrewsbury Town’s players are working hard in training to try to solve their goal-scoring issues, says head coach Matt Taylor.

Salop are League One’s second-lowest scorers behind Cheltenham Town.

Shrews have scored seven, whereas the Robins have managed six. Putting the ball in the back of the net has been a real battle for Town – they have only scored twice in one game this season.

And Taylor says they are trying to build up the players’ confidence ahead of their FA Cup clash with Colchester United today.

“I’ve spoken about this before and I know there isn’t a magic wand,” he said about correcting their record of eight goals in 18 games.

“A lot of it comes down to confidence. How do you build confidence? You try and place players under stress during training, you try to recreate those moments you get in games.

“We have done that. We have done a lot of front-of-the-pitch work to put the players in positions where they are going to be on Saturdays and on Tuesdays.
