Former Shrewsbury Town defender Peter Wall dies aged 80

Former Crystal Palace captain Peter Wall has died at the age of 80, the club have confirmed.

The defender, who joined the Eagles after spells with Shrewsbury, Wrexham and Liverpool, went on to make a total of 208 appearances for the club in all competitions over eight seasons in south London.

He concluded his playing career in the United States before turning to management, and in 1985 was named MISL (Major Indoor Soccer League) coach of the year as head coach of the Los Angeles Lazers, whom he led for five years

A Palace statement read: “The club are deeply saddened by Peter’s passing, and the thoughts of everyone are with his family at this time.”
