Boss backs TNS to get back on track

The New Saints boss Craig Harrison is backing the defending champions to rediscover the winning habit when they head to Rhyl in the Welsh Premier League.

The Saints were left frustrated after being held 1-1 by newcomers Llandudno at Park Hall, with the draw leaving them one of four teams in second spot.

But Harrison remains upbeat, confident the Saints can quickly get back on track this weekend against a Rhyl side that has one point to show from their first two games.

He said: "We will now look ahead to our next game against Rhyl and make sure we get back to winning ways tomorrow.

"We weren't at our best against Llandudno, but didn't lose which is important. We pushed forward in search of the winning goal but, for whatever reason, it never arrived.

"Llandudno defended well and made it hard for us. Obviously, we're disappointed with a point.

"We controlled the first-half completely, but gave away a silly free-kick just after half-time from being a bit sloppy, from which they scored.

"After that we had a little bit of a sloppy patch and it took us 10-15 minutes to regain our composure, then get on the ball again."

Tomorrow's encounter sees Harrison come face to face with his old pal Gareth Owen, now in charge at Rhyl.

The pair were once the management team at Airbus, with ex-Wrexham midfielder Owen bringing Harrison to the club as his assistant.

Rhyl have one point to show from their two games after last week's 3-1 loss at Aberystwyth Town for whom Jamie Reed, on loan from TNS, scored twice.

Manager Owen is relishing the challenge, saying: "Obviously, we have to be aware of a backlash as TNS expect to win every game they go into.

"But it's great for the league that Llandudno can go there and pick up a point."
