TNS frustrated with another score draw

The New Saints had to settle for a third draw in five Welsh Premier outings after Airbus UK Broughton battled back for a deserved point at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.

The Wingmakers, the only side to defeat the treble winning champions last season, trailed at half time to Mike Wilde's 24th minute strike.

But they salvaged a point eight minutes from time when ex-AFC Telford striker Tony Gray found the corner of the net with a glancing header, courtesy of Tom Field's inviting free-kick from the left.

Airbus looked a threat from corners early on, but the Saints had the more clear cut chances in the first period with home keeper James Coates called into action to save at the advancing Wilde's feet

Wilde was proving a threat, with the forward sending a volley narrowly over the bar after some terrific control on the edge of the box.

But he found the net midway through the first half when, after the hosts had failed to clear, the ball ended up at the striker's feet and he cut in from the left before slipping a low shot past Coates.

Coates then saved from Scott Quigley before Field fired a 20-yarder just over the bar, as Airbus sounded a warning.

The second-half opened with Field hitting the woodwork before Chris Budrys headed just wide from Matty McGinn's cross as the game remained very much in the balance.

TNS defender Kai Edwards fired straight at Coates, before blocking a goal-bound effort from Ryan Wade at the other end.

Airbus felt whey were denied a penalty when Budrys was booked for simulation by referee Nick Pratt after appearing to be tripped in the box by Phil Baker.

But they kept their heads as Gray equalised with aplomb to become the Welsh Premier League's joint top scorer with four goals this season.

Both sides could have snatched it late on, Alex Darlington's deflected volley flying just wide for the visitors while Jordan Barrow's free kick was saved at the second attempt by Saints keeper Paul Harrison.
