TNS boss faces some selection posers

Manager Craig Harrison could be facing some tough selection decisions as The New Saints look to maintain their march at the top of the Welsh Premier League.

The Saints have opened up a nine-point lead as they chase a fifth successive league crown.

And their prospects have been further boosted with several players given a clean bill of health for Sunday's trip to Port Talbot.

Although defender Connell Rawlinson continues to struggle with a back problem and striker Greg Draper (hamstring) has missed the last three games, the injury list has shortened considerably.

Jamie Mullan, Ryan Pryce and Robbie Parry all featured in the midweek 4-1 win over Carmarthen Town that took the Saints into the final of the Word Cup.

And Harrison, who also had striker Scott Quigley back after his three-match ban, admits he could soon face some selection headaches as the competition for first-team places hots up.

He said: "We've now got almost everyone fit, which makes my job a lot harder, but it's a problem I'm happy to have. We've got a strong squad and I'm going to have to make a few tough choices."

Still unbeaten this season and flying high at the top of the table, TNS make the trip to Port Talbot in confident mood after winning their previous five outings at the Gen Quip Stadium.

But Harrison is wary of the Steelmen, who recently boosted their squad by signing former Swansea City defender Alan Tate.

He added: "They had been going through a difficult patch, but they've hit form in the last couple of weeks and Alan will give them more experience.

"But, as long as our attitude is right, and we prepare properly, then it's a game we feel we can win."

Harrison was disappointed at his side's 2-2 draw with Rhyl in their last league action after spurning a two-goal lead, but feels the Saints are back on track after their midweek success.

He said: "We're in another final, which is great for the club as we want to win as many trophies as we can.

"We won the treble last season and our target is to do it again. We know there's a lot of hard work ahead, but we're on the way.

"I was very happy with the performance and the effort in what were very tough conditions for both sides. It was debatable whether the game should have gone ahead."

In January's final, TNS now meet Denbigh Town who were surprise 1-0 winners against gap Connah's Quay.
