The New Saints manager Craig Harrison hailed a job well done after his side's dominant UEFA Champions League victory over Tre Penne in the first qualifying round.

The Saints swept aside the San Marino outfit 3-0 in the second leg to secure a 5-1 aggregate win to march into the next round with relative comfort.

However, the Welsh Premier champions will have little time to dwell on that success.

They now prepare for the visit of 25-time Cypriot League champions APOEL Nicosia in the second qualifying round.

The first leg will be at Park Hall next Tuesday with the return in Nicosia the following week.

Harrison said: "It was a fantastic result, although it was not the best we have played.

"Having said that, to score three goals away from home and to keep a clean sheet, you can't ask for any more than that.

"We had the lion's share of possession without creating too many chances. But we knew we would get opportunities and it was just a case of taking them which we did.

"The timing of the goals was all important. To score just before half-time made a massive difference, and to come out for the second half and get a second straight away killed the tie."

Making the trip to San Marino with a slender 2-1 lead from the first leg after spurning several good chances, an unchanged Saints soon stamped their authority on the return leg.

Striker Scott Quigley – also a goalscorer in the first leg – netted along with Aeron Edwards and Greg Draper.

Edwards, who has been at the club since 2009 and played against the likes of Legia Warsaw and Midtjylland in European competition, was happy with how Saints controlled the game.

He said: "It was a tough game out there. The conditions were really hot and humid, but I thought we controlled the game really well.

"We put on the pressure and it was nice to get that second goal, as it kind of killed the tie off for them."

There was confusion in regards to Edwards' goal due to its scrappy nature and Connell Rawlinson getting the first touch.

The 24-year-old centre-half initially joked it was his goal, but admitted: "It was Aeron's goal."
