The New Saints equal record after Carmarthen win

The New Saints boss Craig Harrison hailed another top notch display from his side after navigating a potentially tricky trip to Carmarthen to maintain their winning march at the top of the Dafabet Welsh Premier.

The relentless league leaders had been level 1-1 at half-time on Friday night after trailing early on, before three second-half strikes secured a 4-2 victory to equal Bangor City's record of 15 straight wins.

The victory at Richmond Park, their 19th in all competitions, also extended TNS' lead to 15 points at top of the table as they tightened their stranglehold on the title chase.

Harrison was delighted as his rampant side notched another three points, which put them in sight of setting an outright league record when they host struggling Airbus UK on Friday night.

"Their first goal was a bit dubious. I thought it may have been a foul on the keeper, but the way we've been playing, and the belief and trust everyone has, we were confident we could turn it around," he said.

"It was a tough game. Carmarthen's manager Mark Aizlewood is very good tactically, and they have a hard working bunch of players.

"It's a tricky pitch there this time of year, and was probably the one place I didn't want to go to equal the record, but the lads were fantastic as they have been all season.

"We've done a lot of travelling during the week, and had a lot of late nights, but it's a testimony to the professionalism of the players, and they deserve all the credit. It's a fantastic achievement to equal the record of 15 league wins out of 15."

The Saints have been unstoppable in recent seasons after winning back-to-back domestic trebles, while securing five straight league titles to take their tally to 10 as they continue to rewrite the record books.

TNS' cause was further boosted with second-placed Gap Connah's Quay suffering only a second loss of the season, downed 2-1 at Newtown, leaving the Saints a commanding 15 points clear.
