Boss Scott Ruscoe is anticipating another tight encounter as the top two in the Welsh Premier League do battle tomorrow.

The New Saints will look to tighten their grip at the top when they host surprise package Cardiff Met University.

The showdown pits together the current top two teams in the league, with the high-flying Saints one point above the students who have shown remarkable consistency since their elevation to the top flight last season.

Both sides will be in confident mood after Tuesday night victories took them into the semi-finals of the Nathaniel MG League Cup, with holders TNS overcoming Caernarfon Town 2-0 while the university won by the same score at Barry Town United.

After being locked in goalless draw with the students earlier this season, TNS boss Ruscoe anticipates another closely-fought game as his side look to stretch their unbeaten run to 14 games.

“They have done well this season, are just a point behind, so we will give them the respect they deserve,” he said.

“It’s a big game as we know it’s a chance to put some daylight between us and them. We’ve got some good momentum at the moment and we want to carry it on.”

Defenders Blaine Hudson and Steven Saunders remain on the sidelines, along with forward Wes Fletcher who damaged a rib in the Carmarthen game at the end of September

After missing the start of the season following a knee operation, left-back Chris Marriott made his first start against Caernarfon Town.

The Saints now face a trip to Connah’s Quay Nomads in the semi-finals on Monday, November 20.

Newtown are also on the road to Cardiff Met, with their tie to be played two days later.
