TNS expecting a tough contest as Chris Seargeant prepares for first match
Caretaker manager Chris Seargeant knows Haverfordwest County will provide tough opposition for The New Saints as he prepares for his first match in temporary charge tomorrow
Head of coaching Seargeant leads Saints to Pembrokeshire following the club’s decision to part company with former boss Scott Ruscoe and his assistant Steve Evans last weekend.
Saints go into tomorrow’s match in second place in the JD Cymru Premier.
They were knocked off top spot after Connah’s Quay Nomads – now two points clear having played the same number of games as TNS – won 1-0 at Flint Town United on Tuesday night.
Saints beat sixth-placed Haverfordwest 3-2 when the teams met at Park Hall earlier in the season.
That was a day they left it late to secure maximum points, thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Blaine Hudson.
“It was 3-2 here, we scored last kick of the game,” said Seargeant. “They’re dangerous. I’ve obviously watched footage over the last two days now and if we’re not on it and we don’t take care of the ball, they can really hurt you.
“Fair play to what they’re doing, battling for top six, I think they’re sixth now, aren’t they?
“They look fit, organised and they’ve got players who can definitely hurt you if you’re not on your game, so that will be the message.
“We know that anyway. There’s some good teams in the league and good, young coaches, so every game now it’s those fine margins and we need to crack on, starting Saturday.”
Haverfordwest gave a debut to their new signing Jazz Richards, the Wales international defender previously with Swansea, Fulham and Cardiff, in Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at Aberystwyth Town.
Saints had to settle for a point from a goalless draw at home to third-placed Bala last Saturday as they played their first league game since December 19.
