The New Saints aiming to bounce back

The New Saints will be chasing a return to winning ways when they host Cefn Druids tonight (7.45pm) – with caretaker boss Chris Seargeant insisting: “It’s all about response now.”

Seargeant, the club’s head of coaching, took charge for the first time, following the departure of ex-boss Scott Ruscoe, as Saints were beaten 2-1 at Haverfordwest County on Saturday.

That was just a second defeat in 19 JD Cymru Premier games this season and leaves Saints second in the table, three points adrift of leaders Connah’s Quay Nomads.

The table-toppers are also in action tonight as Nomads travel to third-placed Bala Town.

Seargeant is now looking for a positive reaction against Cefn Druids, the division’s bottom club, who have lost 13 of their 19 league games this term.

He said: “It’s all about response now. I said it the other day, it’s important to start scoring goals again and picking points up, so it is a quick turnaround.

“It’s not all doom and gloom, far from it. We’re in a good position. I saw a lot of good signs there that the lads are right at it and they’re ready to go.”

Saints will be chasing their first victory since the JD Cymru Premier recently resumed. They were held to a goalless draw by Bala at Park Hall in their first game back ahead of losing at Haverfordwest.

Greg Draper scored a hat-trick when Saints beat Cefn Druids 4-0 the last time the sides met in early December.
