Anthony Limbrick: The New Saints will take title fight to the bitter end
Head coach Anthony Limbrick says The New Saints will ‘keep going to the end’ ahead of an exciting JD Cymru Premier title race being decided on tomorrow’s final day of the season, writes Stuart Dunn.
Saints will start the day in second place, two points behind leaders Connah’s Quay Nomads.
TNS have to beat third-placed Bala Town at Park Hall and hope, at the same time, that Nomads fail to win at fourth-placed Penybont, with both matches kicking off at noon.
Should Connah’s Quay claim maximum points against a Penybont side, which beat them 2-0 at the Deeside Stadium last month, whatever Saints – who have a much better goal difference than the table-toppers – do against Bala would not be enough to see them crowned champions.
But any slip-ups from Nomads would open the door for Saints to try and take advantage.
Limbrick highlighted the winning mentality in the TNS squad as his side prepare for their last match of the campaign.
“There’s plenty of winners in that changing room, plenty of guys who have won a lot of titles,” said Limbrick.
“There’s people that are hungry in there and they won’t give up.
“They’ll keep going to the end and that’s the important thing, and that’s what we’ll be doing and preparing just like we will be for any other game and trying to get the win on Saturday and see where that puts us.”
After losing 4-1 at home to Connah’s Quay on April 24, Saints played out two goalless draws, including the return fixture away to Nomads.
But they have enjoyed 3-0 victories in their last two matches, at Penybont and at home to Barry Town United last weekend, to keep their title challenge alive.
Long-serving left back Chris Marriott said: “I think after the Connah’s Quay game it was all about getting to the last day of the season then wasn’t it from our part.
“Getting to the last game of the season and see what the pressure does and see what happens really.”
