Matt Jarvis will benefit from being axed from the Wolves team, according to boss Mick McCarthy.

Winger Jarvis has failed to start the last two league games as Dave Edwards and Stephen Hunt have occupied the wings.

But he has looked fresher coming off the bench on both occasions, particularly in the 3-1 win against Wigan, when he set up Stephen Ward's goal.

And McCarthy feels Jarvis is already better for having had a bit of a rest.

"Sometimes it does you a bit of good to come out of the team," said the boss.

"No player will ever think that and come and see me and say 'thanks gaffer, but leave me out and I'll feel a lot better'. But you take stock when you're out of the team. You have a look at it and get yourself grounded again. If it's not working for you, sometimes you can keep going and it never seems to get any better.

"Suddenly you're off it for a game and a bit and come back in and it works and Jarvo played well against Wigan."
