Mick McCarthy has been sacked as manager of Wolves after five-and-a-half years in charge at Molineux.
Club owner Steve Morgan has ended McCarthy's reign with yesterday's 5-1 home defeat to West Brom the final straw.
Some fans vented their anger towards the directors box during the game and a couple of hundred demonstrated outside the ground long after the final whistle.
Shell-shocked Mick McCarthy had apologised to the fans for his team's performance eysterday.
McCarthy had branded his side's capitulation a "disgrace" after conceding four second-half goals as Wolves crashed to their joint biggest Black Country derby defeat in 82 years.
McCarthy said this was the first time he has ever said sorry for a performance from his team as Wolves were plunged back into the relegation zone on goal difference following a seventh home game without a win.
"I apologise to the fans for the performance," said the boss.
"I've never done it before but it was warranted because it was awful in the last half-hour.
"The saddest part was we capitulated and that's not something I would associate with me or my teams.
"It was very disappointing, but disappointing is an under-statement – it turned out to be a terrible and disgraceful afternoon in terms of our performance at the end of it.
"I can't give any more messages to the fans – I've apologised for the performance which is about all I can do just at the moment.
"I've never done it before which tells you how badly I feel about it. But I know how much it means to the fans and everybody here."
Around 100 fans called for McCarthy's head outside the Billy Wright Stand, while there were reports that some players' cars were spat at.
But the manager said he had no complaints, adding: "Whatever grief they were giving out to me and the players was fully justified after that performance."
