New boss Terry Connor this afternoon insisted Wolves have "unfinished business" in the Premier League as he started their survival bid.

The 49-year-old revealed his pride after being appointed manager until the end of the season today with just 13 games to preserve Wolves' top-flight status – starting at Newcastle tomorrow.

He has been promoted from Mick McCarthy's assistant after the ex-boss was sacked last week following the 5-1 capitulation at home to Albion.

And Connor sounded a battle cry with Wolves in the Premier League drop zone.

He said: "The lads and I feel we have unfinished business from now until the end of the season. We've had two seasons where we've managed to survive in the Premier League and we want to make it three. The players are very much of that thinking as well.

"I'm very, very proud. It's a privilege and a great honour to be asked to look after the team for the remainder of the season.

"We were expecting to work through the Newcastle game and I spoke to the players again this morning and reiterated we take one game as it comes.

"All the work we've done leading up to tomorrow's game is in place. We'll get through that game first and look to move on to Fulham the following week."

Fans have questioned the appointment because of his association with McCarthy's perceived failure but Connor insisted he is a different man to the former boss.

"I've known Mick for a number of years," he said. "We are two Yorkshiremen but couldn't be more different in our approaches.

"We have certain things we are together on and some we disagree on, like most people. He has his way and I've got mine and hopefully I can instil a bit of that into the players in the next 13 games."

And Connor admitted he will have to work for the label manager from his players after being nicknamed 'TC' during his 13 years at Molineux.

He added: "You have to earn the 'manager' and the 'gaffer'. But it's 'TC' or 'gaffer', I'm not bothered. The 13 games are what is important to the club."
