Wayne Hennessey makes Wolves return after injury
Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey was today backed to return "bigger and stronger than ever" after making his comeback from injury.
The Wales international sailed through a planned 45 minutes in the first half of the Under-21s' 3-2 win over Chelsea at AFC Telford last night as he completes his recovery from a ruptured cruciate ligament.
Hennessey still has a long way to go before he can challenge Carl Ikeme for the No.1 spot. But he has already shown his determination to return by playing again just six months after his operation when the normal recovery time is nine months.
And Molineux goalkeeping coach Pat Mountain said the 25-year-old will return better than ever.
"Wayne deserves every credit because he's worked all through the summer with hardly any time off, which was his choice because he wanted to be back as early as possible," said Mountain.
"And he'll come back better for it. He'll be more appreciative of his position and, because he's worked so hard, he's a bigger, stronger person, physically and mentally.
"He's done brilliantly – six months is actually quite a short time for this injury so it's a tribute to the medical staff at the club for the work they've done.
"But the biggest tribute of all goes to Wayne because he's worked so hard to earn the right to be back on the pitch after six months."
Mountain warned fans not to expect too much, too soon from Hennessey and insisted he won't be available for the first team for some time yet, while there is no timescale on his senior comeback.
