Bjorn Sigurdarson relishing his new battles
Bjorn Sigurdarson today insisted he is more ready than ever to deliver on his potential for Wolves as he pleaded for more game-time.
Still only 20, the £2.4m summer signing from Lillestrom had arguably his best outing yet as a 57th-minute substitute in the dramatic 3-3 draw against Brighton on Saturday.
The Iceland international set up Wolves' second goal scored by Tongo Doumbia but is still adapting to his new surroundings and the uncompromising world of the Championship.
Sigurdarson has so far scored once in 11 Championship games for Wolves, but only two of those have been starts.
"I'm really enjoying it now and getting into a shape I've never been in before," said the striker.
"I think it's only going to go forwards from now on. At the beginning I felt I needed more running power, so it was a bit hard, but now I feel I'm in good shape, and I've adapted to what's needed.
"It's only by playing that you can really adjust to the pace of the game. Now I feel I'm getting there as I've got to know the guys, the training and the matches."
Sigurdarson also insisted he relished the hurly-burly nature of the Championship – after describing it as "fun".
"I don't mind the physical stuff," he said. "It's a bit different to Norway where it's not as physical and there's not as much hard tackling.
"I got a bit of concussion against Brighton after taking a whack above my eye, and then a sore knee when I was fouled in the build-up to the second goal. But I kind of like it. When you take the hits, it feels you've really been involved in the game."
