Tongo will face Blues

'Reloaded' Wolves midfielder Tongo Doumbia is set to be unleashed against Birmingham this Saturday as boss Stale Solbakken defended his decision to send him to France.

The Mali international returned from his five-day special training regime yesterday after missing the last two games through mental and physical fatigue.

Doumbia trained with his team-mates before a top-up session with fitness coach Tony Daley.

And Solbakken is hoping the £3m midfielder has regained his energy levels.

"I hope Tongo will be 'reloaded' because he has looked very jaded in his last few games so hopefully he can get back to the levels he showed in his first six, seven or eight weeks," said the boss.

"He trained half the session yesterday and then he went to work with Tony Daley again and he looked happy."

Solbakken insisted Doumbia wasn't given time off, but just a different environment to train in and a chance to see his family.

"It's not as if he's been on holiday, but he's trained differently," he added. "He could do his individual programme, see his family and do two things in one – it was common sense. He's also experiencing a new culture after playing 26 games for Rennes last season."
