Lee Evans ready for his big break at Wolves
Wolves' big hope Lee Evans today boldly declared his intention to lead Kenny Jackett's 'young and vibrant' revolution by gatecrashing the first-team.
The 18-year-old midfielder, who cost £200,000 from Newport County in January, is yet to figure in Wolves' first-team plans.
Butt that is set to change after his inclusion in the 23-man squad on tour in Scotland and head coach Jackett has high hopes for the sought-after Welsh talent.
The playmaker is set to make his debut in tomorrow's opening friendly against East Fife and Evans believes he is ready for his chance.
He said: "I don't just want to be the future, I want to be the present as well. I don't want people just to say 'he's a young lad coming through, hopefully he will get his chance in a few years' time.'
"I want to do it now. The gaffer has said to me 'if you're good enough, you're old enough', so that's the motto I'm taking into every training session and the games.
"The gaffer has been really good to me – he's spoken to me quite a bit as has his assistant, both saying 'get your head down and work hard and you will get your chances', just like they have to the whole team.
"I'm trying to catch their eye as much as possible and hopefully in the friendlies we've got coming up now, he sees something he likes and I can get some games under my belt."
Jackett declared recently that there has never been a better time to be a Wolves player between the age of 18 and 23.
And Evans added: "I've read what he's said and it gives us all a boost because he's the one picking the team.
"I want to impress him as much as I can. Even though I'm only 18, I want to prove I can do it."
Wolves have been linked with a move for Manchester City winger Jeremy Helan.
Jackett is short of left-sided wide options with Bakary Sako expected to leave and Stephen Hunt and Adam Hammill departed. But they face competition from Sheffield Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Rangers won't be signing Christophe Berra, who has been linked with Ipswich and Blackpool. Ibrox boss Ally McCoist said: "The deal is off."
