Wolves' Leigh Griffiths faces England for Scotland
Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett today challenged striker Leigh Griffiths to use his Scotland call-up against England to strike gold in League One.
The 22-year-old striker is in line for his third cap after being named in a 29-man squad for the friendly at Wembley on August 14.
Jackett believes Wolves can benefit from his call-up, saying: It's a fantastic thing to go for. He really has to go and back that up in the league games now.
"If he has the goal of doing well for Wolves and doing well at international level, I see a motivated player."
"And if you see a motivated player with ability you're starting to get somewhere near what you want.
"At present, I see somebody motivated to do well at Wolves knowing that the Wolves form and success can reflect in an international career for Scotland.
"He's very much focused on doing well for Wolves, first and foremost. But he's now got the England game at Wembley and two qualifiers in September.
"These are exciting times for him and I'm pleased for him. He's just had a very successful season and came back here and made a very good impression."
Delighted Griffiths said: "When I came in from training yesterday there was already 10 messages on my phone congratulating me.
"I was absolutely delighted to hear I was in the squad and can't wait to get to Wembley to play against the Old Enemy!
"Hopefully, the manager will keep faith in me and I can play a part. It's always a special fixture and the last time we played at Wembley in 1999 we won so, hopefully, we can do well again."
As a player, Jackett won 31 caps for Wales and he knows how beneficial it can be to be part of the international scene.
He said: "It can only help to be around players of that calibre. It definitely makes you a better player. You see a different standard and you mix with different coaches and different players."
