The Scotland international striker has put pen to paper on an improved two-year deal, with an option of a third.

And with Brierley Hill's Danny Batth also ready to sign a new contract, Wolves are sending out a positive message ahead of tonight's Capital One Cup clash at Morecambe.

Head coach Kenny Jackett, while organising his troops for the first-round clash which will be screened live on Sky Sports, said: "Following on from a very successful loan spell in the Scottish Premier League with Hibernian, Leigh has come back and had an impressive pre-season.

"I am very pleased that he has signed a new contract committing his future to the club.

"We hope that he can now continue his good goalscoring form heading into the season."

Griffiths added: "I am delighted to have signed the new deal. The gaffer has been great with me from day one.

"As a player it always helps you settle when you know where you're going to be playing for the foreseeable future.

"That's me now, I'm settled. I'm moving into a new house in Wolverhampton tomorrow and from now on I can concentrate on my football and try to help Wolves have a successful season."

CEO Jez Moxey confirmed that it was always planned to assess Griffiths' performances during his loan spells with a view to offering him a new deal at Molineux.

"We are pleased Leigh has agreed to extend his stay with us," he said.

"This situation is what we envisaged a year ago when we placed him on loan at Hibernian. We hoped he would play regularly, score goals, gain confidence and return ready to play in our first team. He did that, and more, by becoming a Scotland international who, hopefully, could play some part in the Scotland against England match at Wembley later this month.

"He is a young player who had a year remaining on his contract. He has shown Kenny what he is capable of doing on the field and, importantly, he has also shown a real desire to stay at Molineux – these are the ingredients necessary to be rewarded with a new contract.

"With that now secured, it is up to Leigh to pick up from where he left off with Hibernian, and make a key contribution at Wolves this season."
