Copenhagen blow for Wolves man Georg Margreitter
Wolves remain confident the club will find exit deals for the Molineux 'bomb squad' – despite a fresh blow for wantaway defender Georg Margreitter today.
The 25-year-old Austrian had hoped to forge a permanent transfer to FC Copenhagen where he played on loan last season.
But the Danish club's former Wolves manager Stale Solbakken has ruled out the player he brought to Molineux for £500,000 staying with Copenhagen.
In a symbol of the problems Wolves face trying to move out players locked into lucrative Molineux contracts, Solbakken today confirmed Copenhagen will not be able to do a deal despite the player's willingness to take a pay cut. He said: "Georg had some good last months in Copenhagen – he played well although before that he was our number three central defender.
"But it is impossible for us to meet his demands.
"We have now signed another central defender, Pelle Nilsson from Nurnberg, so Georg will not be a Copenhagen player."
The Austrian age-group international, who had spoken of a "lack of hunger" within the Molineux squad he joined two years ago and which fell into disgrace as the club dropped to the third tier, is one of nine high-earning senior players the club want to move on.
