Sheffield Wednesday back in touch with Wolves over Roger Johnson

Sheffield Wednesday have been in touch with Wolves over Roger Johnson again – but any transfer remains up in the air, it emerged today.

Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett was contacted by Owls manager Stuart Gray yesterday with Johnson one of several topics discussed.

David Davis, who is available for a loan move, was also one of the possible names talked about.

Wolves insist they won't subsidise anyone's departure and if former Birmingham man Johnson was to return to Hillsborough, he would have to accept a pay cut on his estimated £25,000-a-week wages.

"I had a call before training yesterday from Stuart Gray," said Jackett.

"But no, there hasn't been any advancement – it was just a general enquiry on a number of players.

"I spoke with Kevin Thelwell this morning and nothing was mentioned to him.

"But you'd assume there would be interest because he (Johnson) did very well at Sheffield last year.

"It may be at a level where Jez Moxey is talking to his (Johnson's) agent."

Meanwhile Jamie O'Hara will be allowed to leave on a free transfer. Wolves won't pay up the remaining two years on the £5m midfielder's contract.

"I don't think a fee is part of the situation – the whole financial deal is complicated by somebody on high wages," said Jackett. "He's available for transfer or for loan."
