Wolves boss confident George Saville will make the cut at Molineux
Kenny Jackett today declared Wolves midfielder George Saville is a long-term project as he admitted the team misses Dave Edwards.
Saville was one of numerous players who struggled in the 5-0 demolition by Derby and missed Wolves' best chance at 1-0.
The 21-year-old was handed Edwards' role at the i-Pro Stadium but struggled to make an impact as Wolves' midfield was overrun.
Head coach Jackett believes Saville can still emerge as an all-action midfielder.
"At 21-years-old, he's got a really bright future," said the boss.
"I see it as a long game with him but in a team playing 4-3-3 he's got potential and is an option. His eye for a pass, eye for a goal can come on.
"He needs to work on his defensive side but he'll get physically stronger as he gets older."
"He's an attacking midfielder that's got a bit of everything.
"He can tackle, compete, stay with runners, make good decisions defensively while keeping the creative and shooting side of the game."
"He had a chance on Saturday which, at 1-0 down, he needed to hit the target.
"Early on in the Reading game he got through and should have scored and he hit the post at Charlton.
"He's capable of making and scoring goals but needs to improve the defensive side of his game."
Jackett admits Wolves miss former Shrewsbury man Edwards, who is out with medial knee liagement damage.
"Dave Edwards has been quite key for us this season," said the boss. "Some of, if not all our best performances have involved him.
"When he hasn't been in the team, the team hasn't looked the same."
"You can generally tell with a player when he's missing and that's been the case with him."
Wolves U18s face Liverpool at Molineux tonight (7pm). Admission is free.
