Steve Hodge set to leave Molineux

Wolves coach Steve Hodge will leave the club at the end of February after the end of the Molineux 'bomb squad'.

Hodge will not be kept on after Wolves set up a move for striker Kevin Doyle to Colorado Rapids that would remove the final member of Kenny Jackett's outcasts.

Hodge was recruited at the start of the season to work with the group, which comprised players from previous managerial regimes not wanted by Jackett.

But the group – dubbed the 'bomb squad' by former Molineux midfielder Jamie O'Hara – has dwindled in number with the departure of O'Hara, Roger Johnson, Stephen Ward, Tongo Doumbia, Kevin Foley and Bjorn Sigurdarson.

Doyle's exit would leave defender Georg Margreitter the only remaining first-team outcast and the Austrian is already training with Scott Sellars' under-21 squad.

Hodge said: "It has been a privilege to be able to work at Wolves.

"I have witnessed a very professional and driven group of people.

"I leave the Black Country with a real understanding of why Sir Jack Hayward was so proud of his city and his football club."

Head of football development and recruitment Kevin Thelwell said: "Steve came in last summer to fulfil an important role working to ensure those players not involved with the first team picture were kept fit and available should they be required by Kenny or ready for a loan or transfer if interest came in.

"It was only planned as a temporary arrangement but I think it is testament to Steve's professionalism and the work he carried out that we are now in February and it is only just coming to an end.

"I am sure he will be looking for a new coaching position within the game."
