The 24-year-old skipper underwent a scan after Saturday's 1-1 draw against Ipswich which revealed the injury.

The homegrown defender, who has played 90 consecutive league games and is the only player to have featured in every league match under Jackett, is set to be out until the start of next season.

Wolves could also be without goalkeeper Carl Ikeme (knee) and 14-goal top scorer Bakary Sako (groin) for Saturday's final away game of the season at Wigan.

Batth is definitely out for the long term, having undergone a scan after the Ipswich game, which has revealed the injury.

Head coach Kenny Jackett said: "Danny won't be available for the rest of the season and the predicted time for his absence is around three months.

"Unfortunately, injuries happen to players but Danny has had a very good season having played all the league games on the back of being ever-present last season.

"It has been his first season in the Championship and first as captain, gradually taking over from Sam Ricketts as the season went on.

"I know how determined Danny will be to come back strongly and how fit he will come back for pre-season.

"It's unfortunate he's going to miss the end of the season, but he'll be working very hard over the summer to get things right."

Ikeme and Sako both have a chance of being fit for Wigan, but Jackett is set to make a late call on their availability.

He said: "Carl and Bakary will travel to Wigan but we will make a decision tomorrow afternoon or Saturday morning. We'll see over the next 48 hours how they are."
