Kenny Jackett has his sights set on a Capital gain
Wolves boss Kenny Jackett says his team won't be underestimating Newport County as they bid to avoid an upset at Molineux tonight.
Terry Butcher's League Two team arrive for the Capital One Cup clash with just 14 fit senior players due to an early-season injury crisis.
But Wolves have lost their last two League Cup games, crashing out to Northampton Town and Morecambe in the past two seasons, meaning Jackett has yet to win a game in the competition while with Wolves.
And the head coach – who could hand full Wolves debuts to loan signings Adam le Fondre and Sheyi Ojo, as well as Emiliano Martinez if he arrives in time from Arsenal – is taking nothing for granted.
"We won't be underestimating Newport at all," he said. "From our point of view I think we need the games.
"Looking at us on Saturday there were spells of very good play where we looked capable, but the team needs to get into a rhythm."
Wolves beat Blackburn 2-1 on the opening day and Jackett expects to make only 'two or three' changes to the Ewood Park XI.
And with their next Championship fixture not until Sunday, with the Hull City clash being moved a day for television coverage, Jackett's players have an extra day's rest.
He said he was only likely to make 'two or three' changes to the Ewood Park XI.
"Having no game until Sunday, a game on Tuesday evening for us is, I think, a good one and I'm looking forward to it," he added.
"We want to build up a good rapport with our crowd and we'll do that by playing good football, being successful and winning games.
"We know that Newport will be coming to Molineux with a high motivation, here to enjoy themselves and with nothing to lose.
"We were disappointed we went out in the first round last season
"You can never write off lower league teams and we'll be giving Newport respect."
George Saville, Jed Wallace and Danny Batth are ruled out through injury, but otherwise Jackett has a fully fit squad to choose from tonight.
