Wolves out to tie down their star performers

Wolves are poised to resume player contract talks in the coming weeks as Kenny Jackett looks to tie down senior members of his squad.

With the transfer window closed, the head coach has turned attentions back toward securing some of his more high-profile stars on longer-term deals. Kevin McDonald, Scott Golbourne and James Henry are among those currently in the first team with contracts which are set to expire next summer and Jackett admitted discussions are likely to take place in the coming weeks.

"It's something we have discussed and will discuss and act on," he said, when asked about the contract situation. "Now the window is closed there will be further discussions, followed by decisions.

"It would be wrong to speak in public before speaking to the players but yes, with the window closed, a review of our own squad and whether we need to do anything contractually or not will be discussed and decided on."

McDonald's future has already been the subject of much discussion, with the midfielder having been the subject of two failed bids from Fulham during the summer.

Fringe players like Matt Doherty, Tommy Rowe and Aaron McCarey are also on deals set to expire at the end of the season.

Jackett, meanwhile, is predicting on loan striker Adam Le Fondre will kick on after breaking his duck for the club in last month's 2-1 win over Charlton.

"I think Le Fondre looks ready to step in the team and is a good player," said Jackett. "I think in terms of games he is ready as well, I have no qualms with him.

"Getting a winner in the last game has helped him.

"The last week we had before the break really helped him. He did well against Barnet, his first game at Molineux in a Wolves shirt, and then the Charlton game where he came on after an hour to replace Dicko, played well, had one really good chance and obviously got the winner.

"It was a good start from Adam and I think he is ready to go."
