Kenny Jackett demands Wolves consistency

Kenny Jackett says Wolves must focus on their own game, not the opposition, as they look to arrest their mini slump.

Successive defeats have quelled the optimism that surrounded the club following the 3-0 victories over both Fulham and Huddersfield before the international break.

Fans noisily expressed their disappointment at Wednesday's 2-0 defeat to Brentford at Molineux, booing the team off at half and full-time.

And with Wolves marooned in mid table, five points off the play-offs and six above the relegation zone, Jackett is looking for much-needed consistency from his young side, starting with the visit of Aitor Karanka's Middlesbrough.

"Consistency has to be worked on," Jackett said.

"We're not happy with that, we want to give our supporters good football.

"We're 12th out of 24, we had a couple of games where we looked a force and two games where we haven't deserved any points. That's frustrating."

Were there any positives to take from the Brentford game? "No, I don't there there's a great deal of positives," Jackett said.

"You always judge things as a team and an honest assessment of what we need to improve on is what's needed.

"As a team and as a group we have to come out fighting on Saturday.

"There wasn't an area of our performance that we got right.

"We're honest enough to say that and determined enough to put that right on Saturday. It's our responsibility to put on a really good performance for the fans and show them we want to fight for the shirt."

Teenage left-back Sylvain Deslandes is likely to be promoted to the bench with Wolves on their last legs in terms of defenders owning to Dominic Iorfa's suspension.

Jackett said Wolves' search for recruitments was ongoing, but that their defensive shortage heightened the need to bring players in on loan.

"We're always looking to try to improve the side," he added.

"In terms of options we don't need too many more injuries to be struggling, so yes we are looking and we need to be able to bring players in at the right time, for cover or to improve the side."

Middlesbrough comfortably beat Wolves 3-0 in the Capital One Cup last month.

Both teams made several changes for the game and despite Boro's expensively-assembled squad, the Wolves boss is very much concentrating on his own team. "They're one of the stronger sides, have been for a couple of seasons now and look like they're going to be again," Jackett said of the north east side.

"In terms of their recruitment and the size of their squad they look powerful. But I don't worry too much about the opposition, I think if you get your game right in this division you can do well against anybody.

"We need to concentrate on our own game and realise that Wednesday wasn't good enough.

"When they're signing Downing and Nugent, players like that, you can see they're very strong and the manager's done very well.

"I'm sure they'll be there or thereabouts again this season."
