Kenny Jackett: I'm still the man for Wolves
Beleaguered Wolves boss Kenny Jackett maintained he is the right man for the job despite a horror show at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday.
And Jackett admitted Wolves are looking behind them in the table, rather than at the play-offs.
The Yorkshire side trounced Jackett's team 4-1 in a one-sided contest.
Some of Wolves' defending was appalling, as it had been in the 3-2 defeat to Leeds on Thursday, and the two defeats leave Wolves seven points off the bottom three.
"In terms of myself, we're not where we want to be, I can understand the frustration at where the club is at," Jackett said.
"And I can certainly understand with the last two results that people are unhappy with all of us, myself included, and as the head coach it's me mainly, I do understand that.
"As for being able to put it right, I can quite clearly see where we are lacking and I have every confidence in myself to be able to put that right."
Jackett said Wolves deserved nothing from the game. And he couldn't help but criticise his team's defending.
He said of the defeat, in which Wolves took an early lead through Benik Afobe's penalty: "It's twice now we've started brightly and then obviously got the first goal.
"I'm very disappointed after that in terms of our defending as a unit. It's a tough enough place to go. You start well, get a 1-0 lead and we gave some poor goals away again.
"It's seven goals in two games, without either opposition working too hard to get them. We must address that.
"We need to win more headers all over the pitch and then be compact after that.
Jackett felt Wolves looked bright going forward and that there were more goals in them.
But it was at the other end of the pitch that Wolves lost the game.
"It's a concern," Jackett said of Wolves' defending. It gives you no chance of getting points.
"As we opened up during the course of the game, we're 3-1 down, as the ball then is dropping its difficult for us to sustain our pressure and create those chances, and there were holes that the opposition picked off.
"You can see with every goal going in there's a lack of confidence.
"I did feel that all the way through the game, that we could do something going forward and there was more goals in us.
"But similarly Sheffield Wednesday were the better side overall and deserved to win. Our defending wasn't competitive enough."
Wolves remain nine points off the play-offs, and seven ahead of the drop zone.
Of Wolves' faint top-six hopes, Jackett said: "I think it's very tough, looking at the last two performances.
"Before then I was saying things could go either way. With the right type of run we cud have done that. Certainly the last two results have changed that.
"We're very much now, and I know this is obvious, looking over our shoulder."
Do Wolves have enough characters to turn their dreadful form - which has seen them win two in 12 - around?
"I think the character is there, the attitude is there in the group of players," Jackett said.
"Sometimes making the right decisions or being out and out good enough is more appropriate than somebody with the right character.
"I do feel confident there's a good squad in terms of character, attitude, willingness to learn and work.
"It certainly hurts all the players to lose like we have the last two games. Every one of them will be hurting, they do care for their own careers and the club."
