Wolves could sign Emiliano Martinez in the summer
Emiliano Martinez could become a permanent Wolves signing – with boss Kenny Jackett not ruling snapping up the Arsenal keeper when his loan deal expires.
The 23-year-old has battled with Carl Ikeme for the number one jersey, making 15 appearances and impressing before a thigh injury saw Ikeme take his place before Christmas.
Highly-rated Martinez wouldn't come cheap, and Jackett said the club's summer budget would dictate whether there is a deal to be done.
But with his first-team opportunities at Arsenal – where Petr Cech and David Ospina are ahead of him in the pecking order – likely to be limited, the Argentine may be open to a move, although he is still in the Gunners' plans for now.
Jackett said: "In terms of is Emi a long-term target of ours – he is of a very high standard and that would very much depend on where the club is financially and what money we had to spend in the summer.
"If you can get to two players for every position and get real cover and competition then you can be successful."
Arsenal also have Roma loanee Wojciech Szczesny still on their books, while 6ft 6in youngster Matt Macey has been on the bench of late with Cech injured.
Wolves' Aaron McCarey is out of contract this summer and Jackett will look to add first-team standard goalkeeper, whether that be Martinez or someone else.
He feels Martinez's presence has pushed Ikeme to greater heights of late.
"Emi being here and being around in the last few weeks has spurred Carl on to battle for the place," Jackett said.
"It does show that having two good goalkeepers can bring out the best in a number one.
"Since he's been back, yes he's frustrated, he does want to play, but he's been very professional and very good in training.
"And he'll be pushing right through to the end of the season to get that number one jersey at Wolves."
