Paul Lambert not keen on experimentation in Wolves' final games
Paul Lambert has pledged not to hand out token appearances to Wolves' youngsters or returning duo Jordan Graham and Michal Zyro as he eyes a strong end to the season.
Wolves host Blackburn today for the first of their final four games of the 2016/17 campaign.
With nothing to play for in terms of promotion or relegation, many managers would be temped to experiment with youngsters, or perhaps give minutes to returning players.
But Lambert said: "We'll go as strong as we can.
"The form at the minute is really good. The three home games are tough games but at this moment we're in good form, so we'll try and approach it the same way and try and win.
"When it comes to first-team level, it won't be a gift for (Graham and Zyro) to play.
"Sentimental reasons, I get all that, but we've still got a job to do.
"I've got lads who are in form. It's great they're back training, especially in Michal's case with that tackle which was horrific."They're still a wee bit off (being ready). They're looking alright in training but I never judge too much from that. As long as you train the way you play, that's my thing."
Scott Sellars' under-23s have had a great season, finishing second in the Premier League Division 2, earning them a play-off spot which could see them promoted to face the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal next season.
Lambert said the youngsters who had already progressed to his first-team this season – Harry Burgoyne, Connor Ronan, Bright Enobakhare, Morgan Gibbs-White and Donovan Wilson – were still ahead of the rest in terms of being ready.
And the boss added: "They've done great, but you don't get a pat on the back for finishing second, you've got to win.
"The main thing for me is not the results, to an extent, but to get the kids through.
"Results are important but I wouldn't hang my hat on being second.
"They're not really knocking on the door because I've seen what they can do. (Connor) Ronan, (Bright) Enobakhare, Harry (Burgoyne), Donovan (Wilson) has had a taste, so has Morgan (Gibbs-White). Christian Herc has been doing well.
"There are one or two that are a wee bit away from it but they've shown me what they can do, they've been brilliant.
"Scott has done great with the kids. But the ones that are ahead of them are probably a bit ahead.
"I won't do it as a gift. You've got to earn the right to get in.
Defender Richard Stearman was hoping to play today. His loan spells ends in a couple of weeks and the 29-year-old said he felt the remaining fixtures would be a 'trial' as he looks to earn a permanent move.
Lambert, though, disagreed. "Richard has nothing to prove to me," he said. "He had a great game last week, him and Mike (Williamson) were excellent.
"We've still got four games to go and it's not high on my priority. Winning games is the most important thing.
"I know what they can all do, the way they play, their mindset. He's certainly not on trial."
