Wolves striker Nouha Dicko: I can't wait for next season

Nouha Dicko says Wolves let their fans down after their latest defeat – but wants to be a player Paul Lambert can count on next season.

Dicko looked back to his best on Saturday but was by far Wolves' best player in a comfortable 3-1 loss at Derby County.

The striker has only scored three goals since returning from a cruciate knee ligament injury in October and admits he's not proud of his campaign.

But he's determined that he and Wolves will transform their fortunes next season.

"It wasn't the best season for me," Dicko said. "It happens in football – I'm not proud of it but it's football.

"I've tried my best, it wasn't easy but I kept going, I've scored a couple of important goals and I try to stay positive.

"As a player, when you come back in the team without a pre-season it doesn't help. I don't want to hide behind this, I don't want to find an excuse for myself.

"I felt like myself on Saturday, hopefully I keep going from that. Hopefully with a pre-season it can only help and to be where I was before the injury, that's my aim and my target. I want to thank the fans that have supported me throughout the season. Their help has been really good.

"Hopefully next season they have things to be proud about. I can't wait for next season.

"I've had some games like Brentford away, Leeds, when I've felt good. It was hard to be consistent, maybe because of no pre-season, maybe not, but surely it doesn't help not to have one.

"Hopefully that's how I'm going to feel next season – even if some games I don't score, that's me, I'm back, and people can count on me."

Wolves have now lost four of their last six games with their season badly petering out having secured their place in the Championship for 2017/18.

Almost 3,000 fans loudly supported them at Pride Park and Dicko said it was disappointing they couldn't put on a performance for them.

"No one likes to lose, especially when we turn and see the fans, it's never pleasing to see that we've let them down a bit," he said. "Every time we lose we feel we've let them down.

"It's not a game we're all going to remember.

"My personal performance is not really important because we wanted the three points and I'm really disappointed we lost.

"Unfortunately it wasn't our day. For next season it's not what we want...we want to finish the season strong. It was a day when nothing was working for us.

"After we got the red card it's not helping us. We lost the game and no one is happy, it was a bad day for us.

"It's great to see the fans backing the players. Even though we were losing maybe they felt like we tried and it wasn't our day. I really want to say thank you to the fans, they were great. Unfortunately we were not as good as them.

"It's not unnoticed. We'll try to win the last game at home (to Preston) and forget this season. It wasn't the best season for everyone and for me as well. But it's football. Hopefully next season is better for everyone."
