Paul Lambert has called for a 'shake up' at Wolves – and a hunger to strive for Premier League football.

Paul Lambert wants to see big changes at Wolves

The head coach wants a new mentality at Molineux to eradicate any notion of accepting mediocrity and Championship football.

Wolves spent £27million on transfer fees alone this season but look set to end the campaign finishing lower than last year's 14th place.

And Lambert believes that Wolves will go nowhere until there are big changes.

"I think the club definitely needs shaking up," he said.

"I think there's been an acceptance here for too long, for too many years. We have to try and shake it up.

"I don't want to have any regrets and say we never gave it a try.

"The whole thing has to be driven on. We've got to have that hunger to succeed. I don't want to just accept being a Championship club, I want people to think we can get out the league.

"If you think mediocrity, you'll get it. I don't want to finish second.

"We have to try and do it for the benefit of the club and individuals on and off the pitch.

"You work out people on and off the pitch and what could be better."

Lambert is eyeing up a number of additions in the transfer market this summer as well as preparing to move on a high number of players, with Wolves having used 34 in total in 2016/17.

Does he envisage it'll be a very different team that starts the first game of 2017/18? "Yes I think so," he said. "It's important. It wasn't that long ago this club was in League One so it's had its ups and downs.

"We have to bring players in to help, there's no two ways about that.

"You've got to want to believe that you can have a run at promotion. You might never get there, but you've got to believe you can get there. I'm not one of the ones that thinks it's nice to be in the Championship."

"You've got to be consistent in games to do that. People can say they want to get out but don't really believe it.

"Whether it's next year or whatever, but have the aspirations.

"This is my own target, I want to get out of this league. People here have been in the Premier League and know what it's like. That's my aspiration. We've got the fanbase to do it and they can drive us on.

"We have to be better on and off the pitch."
