Wolves 1 Preston 0 - player ratings
Wolves correspondent Tim Spiers rates the players after the final-day win over Preston.
Harry Burgoyne
A first Wolves clean sheet for the youngster and he earned it with a good save from Horgan in stoppage time. Otherwise he had a trouble-free day with little to do. 7/10
Conor Coady
Back to form after struggling at Derby last week. Kept Preston’s dangerman Aiden McGeady quiet and generally did things with minimal fuss. Got forward on occasions and sent a first-time volley wide from Silvio’s cross. 7/10
Danny Batth
A great afternoon’s work for the skipper who scored his fourth goal of the season, powering home Jordan Graham’s corner, and kept his standards high at the back. Threw his body at the ball on a couple of occasions to prevent his keeper from having to make a save. Commanding. 8/10
Kortney Hause
A physical challenge against Preston’s front two but he had little trouble dealing with it. Been a very consistent few months to end the season with for Hause. If he kicks on next season he could become a very important player in this Wolves team. 7/10
Silvio
Very impressive again. Combined nicely with Graham down the left flank, technically excellent and defensively sound. Spanked a 25-yarder just wide too. On this form he’s undoubtedly worth another year but big concerns over his injury record count against him. A difficult decision awaits. 8/10
David Edwards
A 500th career appearance for Edwards who did what he’s done for most of the season – chased and harried the opposition and kept things simple in possession. Involved in most of Wolves good play early in the second half. 7/10
Romain Saiss
The standout midfielder on the pitch. Played some sumptuous balls, including when feeding Bright Enobakhare for that golden one-on-one chance. A few daft passes too, mind. Like the team he’s infuriatingly inconsistent, but if he can turn it on week after week next season then Wolves will have some player on their hands. 8/10
Andreas Weimann
Shunted out to the right wing again – not what he or his manager ideally wants. He was workmanlike and got involved in some decent passing moves on what could have been his Wolves swansong. You expect that it wasn’t, though. 7/10
Bright Enobakhare
His season in a microcosm – bags of skill but, ultimately, no end product. Spurned two golden chances to net his first of the season (from 14 appearances) but the important thing is he’s getting in good positions. Just needs to get his head up more when he marauding around the opposition third as he does tend to choose the wrong option. Overall though his remarkable talent is not in doubt. Next season could be huge for him. 7/10
Jordan Graham
He’s back. After providing eight assists in just 12 appearances last season, Graham took just 60 seconds to set another goal up here. The prospect of him and Ben Marshall producing on-the-money crosses and set pieces next season is a tantalising one and should mean Wolves' strikers score far more than they have this campaign. Was so effective on the left that Preston’s right-back was hauled off after 52 minutes. 8/10
Nouha Dicko
Sharp and inventive in his play, created a couple of chances for himself and teed up Enobakhare when he hit the post with some great work down the right. The end of the season comes at a bad time for him as he's probably saved his best two performances for last. 7/10
Substitutes
Joe Mason (for Graham, 64)
A few nice touches here and there but didn’t add a huge amount to proceedings. 6/10
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson (for Dicko, 77)
Denied by the keeper outside the box for what would have finally been his first Molineux goal. 6/10
Dominic Iorfa (for Weimann, 87)
No time to make an impact. N/A
Subs not used: Lonergan, Stearman, Saville, Evans.
