Keep Lambert, say 75% of Wolves fans

Three-quarters of Wolves supporters want Paul Lambert to stay at the club, an Express & Star poll has revealed.

Lambert looks set to leave Molineux, with Fosun on the brink of sacking their third head coach in 10 months.

The Chinese conglomerate are believed to have already started the search for his possible successor.

Around 2,500 readers have so far voted in our Wolves end of season survey. When asked if Lambert had done a good job since being appointed in November, 60 per cent said yes.

But in response to the question on whether they wanted Lambert in charge at the start of 2017/18, 75 per cent said yes.

Fan opinion is unlikely to hold much sway with Fosun who are thought to have already decided Lambert’s fate.

Sources suggest Lambert is expecting to be sacked, in a move that has come out of the blue. It was widely expected that Lambert would be given the chance to build on his first six months in charge.

There was no update late on Friday evening and the saga could be set to drag on over the weekend.

It’s believed that he was told around a week ago that Fosun were undecided on his future.

Even if Wolves’ owners decide to keep Lambert, their relationship appears to be beyond repair.

That’s despite the Scot expressing his willingness to work in conjunction with agent Jorge Mendes, who has been advising Fosun since their takeover last summer.

Lambert does, though, want a big input on which of Mendes’s clients move to Molineux. Fosun are thought to prefer having total control over transfers and haven’t been totally enamoured with the job Lambert has done in the past six months.

With Lambert still in limbo everything remains on hold, including the retained list and the club’s pre-season plans, until the situation is finalised.

Lambert spoke last Sunday, after the final-day win over Preston, at how much he’d enjoyed his six months at Molineux,

“I’ve absolutely loved it, I really have,” he said. “It’s a brilliant club. Maybe it’s lost its way a little bit, but I’ve had more highs here than lows. February was the lowest, everything else has been great and the cup games were unbelievable.

“I like to think I’ve brought a closeness with the supporters and the players. I’ve had a ball here, it’s been absolutely brilliant.”

Supporters can still vote in our end of season survey, which covers on and off field matters from the 2016/17 season.
