The 43-year-old remains the hot favourite to succeed Paul Lambert if, as expected, the Scot is sacked and replaced in the coming days.

Talks are ongoing with the ex-Porto boss who comes armed with an impressive five-year management track record.

No announcement is expected this weekend but Wolves are keen to end what’s been more than two weeks of uncertainty, especially with the transfer merry-go-round already in full swing.

Nuno is known to be Fosun’s number one choice and if he’s appointed it appears the majority of fans (63 per cent) would be happy, according to a poll of 3,000 supporters.

Fans have been having their say and the majority of feedback to the development that Nuno is being lined up to replace Lambert has been positive.

Wolves fan Ryan Leister said: “If/when Wolves appoint Nuno Espirito Santo, it would be a huge show of intent from Fosun and a massive catch for Wolves. Very promising.

Ben Heap added: “Why are fans saying Nuno is a Zenga 2.0? Just compare their managerial records and the teams they have managed, worlds apart.”

And Sean Phillips said: “Nuno would be a coup for us. Player recruitment needs to be spot on though - Quality over quantity.”

Some supporters do hold reservations, though.

Davey Mac said: “What a mess. Would Wolves be better off without Fosun? Just putting that out there.”

And Kev Blower added: “Wish him well, but we’re just a plaything of a distant consortium stuck into using a dodgy agent. Depressing.”

“If Lambert goes he’ll be the third head coach sacked by Fosun in the past 10 months, after Kenny Jackett and Walter Zenga.
