Steve Bull: Nuno needs time to succeed at Wolves

Club legend Steve Bull believes Nuno Espirito Santo must be given time to make his mark at Wolves as he called for fans to unite behind the new boss.

Nuno became the club’s fourth head coach in less than a year when he replaced Paul Lambert last month.

The Scot had been in charge for less than seven months while his predecessor, Walter Zenga, lasted less than three months in the job, having taken over following Fosun’s decision to axe Kenny Jackett after taking over the club last July.

Record scorer Bull hopes the arrival of former Porto boss Nuno will now mark an end to a period of almost constant upheaval at Molineux.

“Now is the time for stability,” he said. “The new man needs time to stamp his footprint on things and people are going to have to be patient.

“We all want the club to be successful and get back into the Premier League but we have to accept it may take longer than just one season to sort everything out.”

Bull had previously expressed his shock at the decision to axe Lambert but believes there is now no point in dwelling on the past.

“What is done is done,” he said.

“I have been speaking to a lot of supporters and I would say they were roughly split on whether they wanted Lambert to stay or go.

“I’ll admit I don’t know a huge amount about Nuno but he is clearly the man Fosun and Jeff Shi wanted.

“There will be a lot on his shoulders and I think the expectations are now even higher than they were 12 months ago. It is important everyone gets behind him. The club can’t keep chopping and changing all the time.”

Wolves season ticket sales have meanwhile passed the 15,000-mark, though supporters are set to miss out on a partial refund, barring a late sales surge.

Figures released yesterday by the club revealed they are still more than 2,000 adult ticket sales short of hitting the target which would see each season ticket holder receive a rebate of between £59 and £119.
