Jorge Mendes gives evidence in Radamel Falcao tax case
Football agent Jorge Mendes – who has close ties to Wolves – has appeared in court during a tax fraud case against Monaco striker Radamel Falcao.
Mendes, who helped broker the deal for Fosun to buy Wolves and counts head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and record signing Helder Costa among his clients, gave evidence in a Madrid court yesterday.
Falcao is accused of failing to declare £4.69million of income earned from image rights between 2012 and 2013.
Cristian Ronaldo, who like Falcao is represented by Mendes, will also also face tax evasion allegations (it's alleged he illegally evaded £13m in taxes) next month with presiding judge Monica Gomez ruling in both cases.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Mendes told the court his financial dealings only extended to his clients and their clubs.
It's been reported that Mendes could be placed under official investigation in the case.
The founder of the Gestifute company, Mendes declined to comment to media outside the court and then gave evidence for three hours.
Gestifute made a statement earlier this month denying that Mendes has done anything wrong.
It read: "Neither Jorge Mendes nor the company he manages, Gestifute, participate in or offer any service linked, directly or indirectly, to financial, fiscal or legal advice to their clients."
