David Edwards: Wolves disappointed with defeat

Midfielder David Edwards suggested it was a game too far for Wolves as they ended their Austria trip with a first defeat under Nuno Espirito Santo.

After nine days which has included two matches and daily double training sessions Wolves gave a lethargic performance as they slipped to a 1-0 loss to Czech top-flight side Jablonec.

Wolves saw plenty of the ball but only created a couple of chances, with substitute Sylvain Deslandes going closest in the second half.

The winner was a 20-yard free kick which keeper Harry Burgoyne will feel he should have saved.

And Edwards said: "Obviously it was a bit of a disappointing goal to concede but in general we couldn't quite get a grip on the game like we have done the last two games.

"It's been a long nine days, a lot of work's gone into it, maybe that showed a bit in today's game.

"Overall it's been a thoroughly good trip with lots of positives.

"I've said to a few of the boys that for 70 per cent of the pitch we looked very comfortable, but then we didn't create enough.

"To win games of football you need to create chances and we didn't do that enough today.

"But it's new to us all and the gaffer will be working on it hard the next few weeks to make sure when we get to that phase of the pitch we're more clinical and pick the right pass."

Plenty of Wolves' training work has been on shape and patiently bringing the ball out from the back and though midfield.

Edwards believes that emphasis may now change.

He added: "A lot of the work we've been doing has been in the build-up, so hopefully when we get back to Compton we can start working on that second phase.

"Minutes under the belt is important for everyone and some of the boys got 60 minutes as well.

"We've only got three games left before the start of the season so it's a big week next week and everyone's looking good and feeling fit."

Wolves face Shrewsbury Town away on Saturday, Peterborough United away next Tuesday and then host Leicester City at Molineux on July 29.

Their Championship campaign kicks off against Middlesbrough at home on August 5.
