Wolves boss Nuno: We're building an idea

"We're building an idea – a new idea for them," said Nuno Espirito Santo after Wolves' new-look team made the perfect start to the season.

A 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough was hardly a classic but Wolves did enough to earn the three points against a team many consider to be favourites for automatic promotion.

And while pleased with the result, Nuno seemed less enamoured with the performance, saying the players would be worked hard in training on Sunday.

"All the players have to progress," he said after Saturday's match. "The victory gives us confidence to work but we have to work harder. Tomorrow is going to be a hard day.

"We play Tuesday (against Yeovil), so on Sunday we start preparing for that."

Asked when his team will play exactly how he wants, Nuno replied: "Never. We will get better in the training session tomorrow, in the game, but you will never be perfect. In football there's no perfection. We improve each day.

"They were able to see good football and organisation and a fantastic effort.

"You can do anything you want but if you don't have the heart to do it there's no point.

"This showed this is the heart and the spirit we want, to fight for every ball."

Leo Bonatini was Wolves' hero with the winning goal on his debut.

Nuno said of the Brazilian: "The goal builds up confidence. It's all about that moment that you have to put the ball (in the net). He was calm enough to do it well.

"He did one week and had enough training sessions to understand what we want from him."

Defensive rigidity played a key role in the hard-fought victory.

Nuno was pleased with the fighting spirit shown – and again suggested Wolves' transfer business isn't over for the summer.

"We are looking at Middlesbrough as a squad and the options they had – they started with three strikers, two more on the bench," he added.

"We're talking about a strong team, so to fight against them was a good test for our boys and we did well.

"There was fantastic work from John (Ruddy). Everyone did well to help the team.

"We have a good squad. The market is there. The message is clear – any player who comes in should improve the squad.

"We're not going to bring just anyone, we're looking for quality and team spirit."
