Barry Douglas: Everything's clicking at Wolves

Scottish wing back Douglas scored his first goal for two and a half years as Wolves extended their winning start to the campaign at Derby.

The 2-0 victory also saw Nuno Espirito Santo's team register their third successive clean sheet.

"It was a very convincing performance," Douglas said.

"(Nuno) is telling us to get on the ball and play and make things happen.

"He is emphasising for everyone to play even under pressure so it is giving us great confidence.

"Even when our backs are to the wall, he wants us to play out and for me personally it's good.

"It's early doors, everyone is in that transitional period, so we just need to take one step at a time and keep going.

"Everyone is buying into the way we are playing. It suits us. We know there are going to be tough times when maybe we don't get to play nice football.

"But just now everything seems to be clicking."

Wolves tomorrow travel to face Hull City, who beat Burton Albion 4-1 on Saturday, before facing Cardiff this weekend and then Premier League side Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

It's a relentless start to the campaign but Douglas believes Wolves are well equipped to keep their run going.

"I don't think there are going to be any easy games in this league but a lot of emphasis is on ourselves.

"On Saturday we showed that we are serious contenders to beat anyone on our day. It is early doors but we will take a lot of confidence and positives from it.

"Clean sheets are important for defenders like strikers with goals. If we keep clean sheets, we don't get beat. There are a lot of positives at both ends of the field but we just need to keep working and keep progressing.

"There is a lot of excitement around the place now and the guys feel that as well so it is up to us to keep producing on the park."

Douglas hasn't exactly been renowned for his goalscoring during his career. He scored four for Dundee United, three for Lech Poznan and none for Konyaspor.

How would he describe his goal at Derby?

"Hit and hope!" Douglas jokes. "It came out and I just thought 'I'm going to hit this.' You never know and it ended up in the back of the net.

"I've been the nearly man for the past year and a half! Thankfully one has gone in the back of the net.

"My last goal was probably Poznan. I never scored in Turkey. I was close 10-15 times but it never actually went in.

"It's nice to get off the mark but the most important thing is the team getting the win.

"Me and Jota seem to have a good understanding even though we don't speak the same language! He is a good player, you can see the ability he's got.

"We will just keep working on it and hopefully we can create goals and create things for the strikers. A lot of confidence has come from Saturday."
