The Russian has only been in charge since the summer but said he had researched every team in the league – and was proud his players were able to match Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

After his first defeat as Hull boss Slutsky said: "I think, in my opinion, we played against the best team in the league.

"I researched all the teams in the Championship and Wolves for me, in this moment, are the best team.

"In the second half we played much better and had two clear chances. I very disappointed with the result but I'm proud because we've been a team for a very short time and we can play minimum on the same level as the best team in the Championship.

"I think we showed the same level as Wolves. I've watched all three (Wolves) matches and they never concede. We scored twice and had a lot more chances.

"We deserved a result, a draw would be fair in this situation."

Slutsky lost £10million striker Abel Hernandez to what looked like a serious injury towards the end of the game.

It's feared he may have suffered a snapped Achilles tendon.

The Hull manager added: "We will understand the situation after scans but it looks very serious.

“It’s his Achilles. We don’t know (how bad it is), it’s fingers crossed. Everything is possible but it looks very serious.

“It’s a very short time after the match and I hope it will not be a long time. We are waiting on the results of the scan.”
