Nuno demands hard work ethic at Wolves

Nuno Espirito Santo says hard work is the only way Wolves will keep their winning run going – but feels they’ve adapted well to long-ball Championship tactics.

Second-placed Wolves host table-toppers Cardiff City at Molineux tomorrow in an early season showdown.

Another victory would extend their 100 per cent winning start to the season to five matches in all competitions though head coach Nuno is determined to keep his players’ feet on the ground.

And the head coach, believes graft on the training ground is the vital component to extending their perfect start to the season.

“To do it this way is only about their work and the way they prepare themselves,” he said.

“When there’s talent and quality and you have a good group of men supporting that you are building a team.

“This is what we are doing, building a team from the back, being solid, knowing their tasks, knowing the idea, progressing every day and putting together the things we do in training.

“We’re building a team, a lot of new faces and players.

“This is why I’m so pleased, because what we do in training we do in the game.”

Record signing Ruben Neves scored what will surely be one of the goals of the season in Tuesday’s 3-2 win at Hull City and Nuno praised his young star but reiterated the importance of every game.

“The goal was poetry but I’ve seen him score goals like this before,” the boss said.

“He helped the team, not only in that moment but during the game,” he added.

“Him and Saiss, all the boys...we must congratulate the team. It’s not about individuals.

“There were good goals from Jota and Nouha, a good save from John Ruddy, Ryan Bennett came off the bench and supported the team.

“This is what we’re about, the team.”

The Bluebirds have scored six goals without reply in their three league games.

“But Nuno feels his side have already adapted to the different styles used by teams in the Championship.

“Against Hull it showed again our defensive strength,” he said.

“We felt like this against Boro, who played long balls, big guys, second balls, this kind of football.

“It’s hard to defend against but I’m pleased.”
