The stats behind Wolves' flying start to the season

Nuno Espirito Santo's side moved to the top of the Championship when beating Villa 2-0 at Molineux on Saturday.

Wolves correspondent Tim Spiers has crunched some numbers to reveal the stats behind Wolves' flying start to the campaign.

Wolves have scored first in nine of their 12 games so far – a joint-league high alongside Sheffield United.

Wolves have kept nine clean sheets from their 15 matches in all competitions. The last time they achieved this feat was in 1982/93 on their way to promotion to the top flight (which included a run of eight in a row).

A total of 30,329 watched Wolves beat Villa 2-0 on Saturday – the highest attendance at Molineux since 1981.

Molineux's average attendance so far is 27,104. The highest average attendance they've ever achieved as a second tier club over a whole season was 26,620 in 2004/05.

Diogo Jota has scored four goals away from home – the joint-highest in the league.

Conor Coady's pass accuracy from 11 appearances is 89.1 per cent – the fourth highest in the league (source – WhoScored.com).

Ivan Cavaleiro has produced five assists, the joint-highest in the division.

Six goals have been scored by substitutes, a league high.

Diogo Jota averages three shots per game. Only three players have a higher average (source – WhoScored.com).

Wolves have won through three rounds of the League Cup for the first time since 1995/96.

Wolves are second top goalscorers in the Championship with 21 goals.

Their goal difference of +10 is the best in the league.

Wolves have won promotion on the last two occasions they’ve won as many as eight of their opening 12 league games of a season (2008/09 in the Championship and 2013/14 in League One).

Leo Bonatini has a combined total of five goals and four assists, more than any player in the Championship.

Bonatini is also Wolves' most creative player, setting up 19 goalscoring chances.

Eleven players have scored in the league for Wolves, the highest number in the league.

Wolves have scored six goals in the last 15 minutes of matches, second in the division behind Bristol City (7).

Wolves have named the third youngest starting line-up on average in the Championship this season (24 years and 250 days) behind Barnsley and Brentford.

Wolves have conceded only three first-half goals, the joint second best in the league behind Villa (1).

Diogo Jota scored six goals before the end of September. The last Wolves player to do this was Chris Iwelumo (2008/09).
