Wolves' Conor Coady: We've set the standard

Conor Coady believes Wolves have set the standard they need to reach every week – as they prepare for yet another game tomorrow night.

It's been a hectic period for Nuno Espirito Santo's men who will tomorrow play their fifth game in 14 days.

Fulham are the visitors to Molineux and Coady, who captained the side which won 2-0 at Norwich City on Tuesday, said consistency was crucial as Wolves eye staying at the top of the Championship.

"We had to bounce back from Saturday, which was nowhere near good enough from our point of view," he said of the Carrow Road win.

"We needed to get back to basics and do what we've been doing well. I felt we did that on Tuesday.

"The boys were outstanding. It's the standard we've set so we need to keep it now.

"We've got a really good team spirit and the boys who've come in have settled really well.

"The big thing is I don't think you can lose two games on the spin. It's something we emphasise quite a lot.

"The manager tells us about it when he's not happy and he expects a reaction, it's as simple as that. We pride ourselves on trying to control games and move the ball really well.

"After QPR he wasn't happy and it was a tough one to take. He expects a reaction."

It's been a helter skelter couple of weeks for Coady, who missed a penalty in the Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City last week but then captained the side to a crucial victory and a clean sheet on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old admitted he was devastated after the City loss but with such a busy schedule of games he couldn't let his emotions get the better of him.

"I was devastated," he said. "I felt like it was an opportunity to win and knock them out. But we just want to keep on playing how we're playing whether it's Man City or someone in the Championship.

"(The schedule) is crazy but it's part and parcel of this mad division. Everyone beats everyone and we need to be consistent, we know that.

"I've played in it now for plenty of years. It's about moving on to Fulham now, we're not thinking about anyone else.

"The way everyone is coming together, supporters, staff, players, it's massive. And it's what we need to move forward.

"If we can keep improving on the training ground with the manager, hopefully it's a good season."

Coady was joined in defence by Willy Boly and Ryan Bennett on Tuesday and he was impressed with how the pair slotted into the side.

"These are very clever players and very experienced – Benno's played god knows how many Championship games and Willy Boly comes from Porto," Coady added.

"They fit in really well, the gaffer's emphasised since the start of the season how he wants to play and everyone will be involved.

"I thought the pair were fantastic."
